Itinerary

The trekking journey commences from Delhi with a focus on optimizing time. Therefore, we recommend that our travelers gather at Gate No. 2 of Mayur Vihar Extension Metro Station. Chopta is situated at a distance of 450 kilometers from Delhi, requiring approximately 14 hours to reach our destination. Our route takes us through a picturesque path, encompassing notable places such as Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath before ultimately arriving at Chopta the following day.

The journey to Rishikesh constitutes an overnight travel leg, followed by an additional 8 hours of a slightly challenging yet immensely scenic mountain drive. Most of the route skirts along the mountainside, offering breathtaking views of the river flowing below. Be sure to capture the mesmerizing confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers at Devprayag and create lasting memories along the way.

Approximately 35 kilometers after passing Rudraprayag, our route veers towards Kedarnath. You'll continue along this scenic road, passing through Agastyamuni, a place named after the revered saint Augustya and serving as a small marketplace for nearby villages. Further along, you'll reach Ukhimath, a quaint hamlet known as the winter seat of Kedarnath. Anticipate arriving around lunchtime, ensuring a relatively early arrival to allow for relaxation and rejuvenation.

For those who still have some energy left after the journey, our picturesque campsite awaits, a visual treat for photography enthusiasts. Take the opportunity to explore the campsite and the surrounding trails, where the forests transport you to scenes straight out of a movie. Our preference aligns with the adage of "early to bed and early to rise." We recommend our travelers get adequate rest before our upcoming encounter with Chandrashila, affectionately known as the Moonpeak, on the following day.

Chopta is known as "Mini Switzerland", and is getting popular as a tourist destination since last few years. Chopta hill station is situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state at a located at an altitute of 2600 mts above sea level amidst dense forest. Enchanting views of the Himalayas is visible from Chopta.

Chopta is the initiation point of the trek to famous TungnathMandir (one of the Panch-Kedars) and summit Chandrashilla. The region is rich in varied flora and fauna, with plenty of Rhododendron and deodar trees all around.

Have dinner and night stay.

"Rise and Shine for an Unforgettable Day: The Epic Deoriatal Chopta Chandrashila Trek"

Today, we embark on a thrilling adventure as we set our sights on the summit, a truly mesmerizing and unparalleled peak that promises an experience like no other, weather permitting, of course. This place is steeped in legends, with tales that transport us to ancient times. According to one popular folklore, this is where Lord Rama meditated after vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. Another legend speaks of the moon-god Chandra spending time here in penance.

The journey from Chopta to Tungnath covers approximately 3 kilometers of a well-paved cemented trail, followed by an additional 1.5 kilometers of a steep ascent leading to the summit of Chandrashila. The path from Tungnath to Chandrashila becomes a bit rugged, adding an extra layer of excitement to the trek.

For history enthusiasts, the Tungnath Temple is a fascinating highlight. It's one of the Panch Kedar temples and is revered as the highest Lord Shiva temple globally. Legend has it that sage Vyas Rishi advised the Pandavas to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva, who was disheartened by their role in the Kurukshetra war. To fulfill this penance, Lord Shiva disguised himself as a bull, and parts of that bull are said to have manifested in five different places, each identified as a Panch Kedar. Tungnath is believed to be the place where the bull's hands were seen. While the trek is enjoyable, it involves a steep ascent, especially towards the end.

As you ascend, you'll notice a change in the landscape due to the increasing altitude. The tree line gives way to shrubs before reaching the Tungnath temple. The journey from Chopta to Tungnath typically takes around 3 hours, followed by an additional hour to reach the Chandrashila summit from the temple.

Upon reaching the peak, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic vista of the Garhwal and Kumaon mountains. The Chandrashila Peak stands tall at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of iconic Uttarakhand peaks like Kedarnath, Mandani, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti, Hathi, Ghodi, and more.

After capturing the beauty of this summit in photographs, our journey back to Chopta retraces the same path we took during the ascent. It's approximately a 30-minute hike to Tungnath and an additional 60-90 minutes to return to Chopta from Tungnath.

Have dinner and night stay.

"Exploring the Enchanting Deoriatal: A Journey from Sari to Your Heart's Retreat"

Our day begins in Sari, a charming and secluded village nestled at an elevation of 6,601 feet. Departing from Chopta, we set out early in the morning, at 8 am, and make our way to Sari post a delicious breakfast. The trek to Deoriatal spans approximately 2.3 kilometers and offers a mildly steep path adorned with stone paving.

While trekking this picturesque trail, we encounter a quaint temple and a few houses along the way. Deoriatal, much like Chandrashila, is steeped in local folklore. According to legend, the Pandavas, in their quest for water, reached the shores of Deoriatal and were presented with a test of wisdom.

Around 1 kilometer into the trail, we pause and turn to witness a bird's-eye view of the breathtaking Sari village. Along the way, there are several shelters where one can take a well-deserved break. Although the Deoriatal trek from Sari is relatively easy, it can be a tad exhausting for those trekking it for the first time. The trail meanders through scenic forests adorned with Rhododendron and Oak trees.

Upon reaching the lake, you'll be greeted by a forest check post. The lake is embraced by lush forests on all sides. On a clear day, the reflection of the surrounding mountains dances on the crystal-clear waters of the lake, creating a stunning visual spectacle.

Afterward, we make our way back to Sari and commence our return journey to Delhi, hearts and souls enriched by the experience. You'll arrive in Delhi early the following morning, carrying with you the memories of this memorable adventure.

Wish you Happy & Memorable Trip!!!

Things To Carry

  • Wearing layers is the mantra in the mountains in winters. Layers give you maximum protection from all elements. You will need at least 5 warm layers (Insulin layers). You will need at least 1 pair of inner thermals, 2 light fleece layers, 1 light sweater, and 1 padded jacket. Ensure your padded jacket has a hood as well. A minimum of one pair and a maximum of two pairs of trek pants should suffice for this trek. Wear one pair and carry one just in case it rains/snows. Trek pants with zippered cut offs at the thighs are very suitable for treks. Also, choose quick-dry pants over cotton.
  • Sunglasses – Sunglasses are to prevent snow blindness. A small overexposure to direct sunlight on snow can lead to snow blindness (about a half hour’s exposure). That’s because fallen snow is like thousands of mirrors that reflect direct UV rays. So you need sunglasses with UV protection. (Buying Tip: Try getting sunglasses that wrap around instead of those that have openings on the side. Even peripheral UV ray exposure is not a good idea.)
  • Sun Cap
  • Synthetic Hand Gloves – Get synthetic hand gloves that have waterproofing on the outside and a padded lining on the inside. If you find the combination difficult to get (not likely), wear a tight-fitting fleece hand glove inside a synthetic hand glove. Hand gloves are mandatory on this trek.
  • Woollen Cap – a woollen head cap that covers your head and ears is absolutely essential.
  • Socks – Apart from three to four pairs of sports socks, take a pair of woolen socks. Sports socks give you cushioning plus warmth. Again the mantra is to wear synthetic socks or at least a synthetic blend. Cotton socks soak in water and sweat. They are very hard to dry. As for woolen socks, they help you to keep warm and snug in the night. If you cannot get woolen socks, wearing two sports socks serves the purpose as well.
  • Power Bank ( Strongly recommended as the campsite runs on solar energy hence is weather dependent)
  • Thermos for water.
  • Medication (As per medical conditions if any and is subscribed by a doctor)
  • We are located in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary so there are bound to be insects please try carrying an insect repellent if possible.
  • Extra cover for your electronic gear items/valuables.
  • Quick Dry Towel/Towel
  • Torch/headlamp
  • A tiffin box with a spoon for packed lunch, we try reduced usage of plastic/paper as much as possible.
  • Poncho/Rain Cover
  • Do not leave plastic wrappers (chips, chocolates etc) behind while on trek and yes! don’t forget your “mask” of course!

Additional Information

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the trek.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government are to be followed.
  • Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask is recommended.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations/timings.
  • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point. Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
