Description
The snout of Gangotri glacier at an altitude of 4,200 metres is regarded as the physical source of Bhagirathi (Ganga) and is of great importance to the pilgrims. The Gangotri glacier is nearly 24 kms. long and 6 – 8 kms. wide. The glacier is believed to receding at the rate of 5 metres a year. Pilgrims trek from Gangotri to Gaumukh and take a holy dip in the ice cold water.
The scenic trek route passes through lush valleys, dense forests and towering peaks. Chirbasa, 9 kms. from Gangotri is the popular camping site on the route. It affords awe-inspiring views of the glaciated heights of Gaumukh. Bhojwasa, 14 kms. trek from Gangotri is known for the forest of Bhojpatra trees. In ancient times the bark of the Bhojpatra trees was used as substitute for paper for writing.
Nandanvan – Tapovan (28 kms.)
These two attractive spots opposite to Gangotri glacier lie further up from Gaumukh and can be reached after a difficult trek. Nandanvan is the base camp or Bagirathi peak and provides a spectacular view of the majestic Shivling peak. A trek across the south of the Gangotri glacier leads to Tapovan famous for its beautiful meadows encircling the base of the Shivling peak.
Itinerary
Pick up from Rishikesh hotel, later we shall drive to Uttarkashi. On arrive check in at hotel. Evening at leisure. An overnight stay.
Dinner at Hotel.
After breakfast, we proceed to Gangotri enroute enjoy picturesque Harsil valley, Bhagirathi River and the most magnificent view of the Himalayas.

On arrive check in at hotel. later visit Gangotri temple perform pooja and Darshan. An overnight stay at Gangotri.
Gangotri - As per The Hindu mythology, Goddess Ganga - the daughter of Lord Brahma , showed herself as a waterway to acquit the transgressions of King Bhagirath's forerunners, taking after his extreme retribution of a few centuries, and Lord Shiva got her into his tangled locks to minimize the gigantic effect of her fall. She came to be called Bhagirathi at her incredible source. Along the right back of Bhagirathi stands the sanctum of Gangotri devoted to the Goddess. Roosted at a stature of 3042 meters (10,000 ft), it was developed in the mid 18th century by a Gorkha Commander, Amar Singh Thapa.
After breakfast, proceed to Bhojawasa by 14 kms treks to reach. Reach and check –in at Camp. An overnight stay.
Note: We will provide proper bedding camp for night stay but toilet will be common and there will be no electricity

Today early morning start 5 Kms trek to Gaumukh. Back to Bhojawas and stay.

After breakfast trek down 14 km to Gangotri. Later drive Uttarkashi. Reach and an overnight stay.

After breakfast drive to Rishikesh, On arrive check in at hotel and stay.

After breakfast drive to Dehradun Airport for board your flight.
